Victoria Falls residents have expressed dismay over a 324% increase in rates by the Victoria Falls City Council.
Residents have described the move as unjustified and wrongly timed.The increase in water and service charges now see high density residents paying around RTGS5000,00 a month.
“I think raising the rates is unjustified considering the times we are in”a female resident said.
A huge percentage of Victoria Falls residents city depend on tourism related jobs and residents have complained that an increase in rates is uncalled for considering how the industry has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Business owners have also expressed displeasure in the Victoria Falls City Council for refusing payment plans which is another blow considering the challenges that the tourism industry has faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The tourism industry has been affected hugely by the pandemic and no business can raise this huge amounts without a payment plan”a business owner said.
Victoria Falls was conferred a city status in 2020 and has one of the seven wonders of the world.
