The Vice President Constatino Chiwenga has led Zimbabweans by example, becoming the first person to get vaccinated with the sinopharm vaccine at Wilkins Hospital in Harare today.
The vaccine roll out program started today in Harare and is expected to reach the whole country in the coming few days.
Commenting on its tweeter handle the Ministry of Health and Child welfare said,’VP Dr C.G.D.N was the first person to get vaccinated against COVID-19.’
200 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine were secured from China by the government of Zimbabwe.
The commendable move by the vice president is a welcome gesture that will encourage the generality of Zimbabweans to follow suit as he has instilled some confidence on the masses on the general safety of the vaccine.
The vaccination of VP Chiwenga, like that of President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday in South Africa instils some confidence in the general populace as it is an exemplary move by the leadership.
A lot of unverified negative news continues filtering from all corners of the country with regards to the vaccine which might disturb the country’s efforts to fight the pandemic.
Covid 19 has so far claimed 1 418 people in Zimbabwe while 31 615 have recovered with the total cumulative cases being at 35 423 as of 17 February 2021.
